The enrollment capacity for this class has been reached. Further registrants will be placed on a waitlist and contacted when space becomes available.
George Lepp, Canon Explorer of Light and Outdoor Photographer Field Editor and columnist for the past 28 years, will lead a three day workshop through the grand landscape destination of the San Juan Mountains, known for having some of the best aspen forests and high mountain vistas in the country. The photography will center around the Grandscape and how to capture it in different ways using techniques like panoramas, HDR, wide-angle and telephoto optical extractions. There will be plenty of opportunities for close-up details and designs in the forests we will be traveling through.
Students will have the opportunity to learn in a small class limited to 16 people. You will be supported by the expertise and insights of George Lepp while seeing and capturing spectacular colors. Fall color shooting locations feature magnificent aspen groves combined with evergreens, vistas of the Rocky Mountains, superb granite formations, reflecting ponds and colorful macro possibilities.
We will car-pool to fantastic spots like Owl Creek and Grand Mesa and others including Kebler Pass. All photography will be accomplished near the road. No hiking is required. Support staff will be there to help you with equipment questions both in the field and in the classroom.
A sample of topics that we will concentrate on during the field sessions:
- Use of different focal lengths
- Choosing your design elements
- Getting sharp images
- Composition and panoramas
Please bring your favorite camera, together with any lenses you want to shoot with (both wide angle and tele-photo), plenty of charged battery packs and memory cards, a sturdy tripod (a must!) and a laptop computer for downloading images. You will also have the opportunity to submit images to the on-site technical representative who will make one or two prints for you to take home.
Photographers attending this workshop should have strong working knowledge of camera basics including f/stops, shutter speeds and other manual settings. This workshop is also suitable for photographers looking to build their portfolios with publication quality images as well as photographers interested in exploring the capabilities of Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras and EF lenses.
