Want to escape the icy grip of winter? Join us in beautiful sunny Fort Myers, Florida for three days of immersion into the world of colorful macro and wildlife in the field. Our first full day is indoor with multiple shooting stations in a conference room where we have an amazing collection of wildly beautiful macro creatures: Dart Frogs, Snakes, Chameleons, and Geckos. These subjects are posed on natural plants, flowers, with complementary backgrounds, no glass to shoot through or barriers to work around. We have total control of the subjects and the lighting, creating dazzling eye candy images. We’ll capture everything from full body images to full frame eyeball images. Days two and three have you in some of Florida’s best birding hotspots, where you learn to use long lens techniques for razor sharp, frame filling images of stunning birds, alligators, and more.
We’ll headquarter our workshop at the Marriot Courtyard, Fort Myers, FL. Here we stage and photograph macro subjects. The hotel is located conveniently for access to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Six Mile Cypress Slough, Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge for our birding/wildlife outings.
Day One: Learn to creatively use a variety of macro lenses and accessories: extension tubes, teleconverters, close-up diopters, ring flash and twin flash units. Learn how to get perfect flash exposures every time when only inches from the subject.
Day Two and Three: We sharpen our telephoto lens techniques, capturing beautiful Florida birds, alligators, and more. We’ll learn about panning, freezing action, and slow motion blur treatments, working with tripods, telephoto lenses, and teleconverters, and seeing creatively. Learn to use rear button autofocus like the pro, and setting your camera up to work the way you want! Learn to use manual metering so you can get perfect exposure regardless of subjects background.
Intermediate and Advanced: Need to have an understanding of your camera operations including manual mode, AV, F Stops and Shutter speed as needed.
