Join Director/Director of Photography Joshua Caldwell as he takes a small group of 14 filmmakers through a hands-on intensive workshop designed to empower filmmakers in making the right camera choice for their next project. The marketplace is full of different options, all with their own strengths and weaknesses, so come along as Joshua puts the EOS C700, EOS C300 Mark II, XC10 and ME20F-SH through their paces to give you the information you need when it comes to choosing the camera for you.
Too often, people are told they need this, that and the other light to shoot their projects. But the sensor quality and light sensitivity of today’s cameras provides lots of dynamic range, which gives you more freedom to tell the best possible story. Joshua has spent the past several years shooting with a variety of Canon cameras and utilizing small crews, small lighting packages (or natural light) and delivering high quality storytelling for very little cost.
In this workshop, Joshua will discuss his approach to filmmaking, how the new range of Canon cameras fit into his workflow, non-traditional but cinematic lighting techniques, framing and camera operating, use of LUTS, lens choices and the realistic time and labor constraints of small budget productions. Finally, Joshua will project the footage captured throughout the day in Canon Burbank’s 4K DI Suite for review and critique.
All filmmakers will receive hands-on time with the cameras and lighting configuration, walking away with operational knowledge of the cameras, lights and rigging and the joy of seeing their work projected on screen.
