What's New in the EOS Line: Adding Copyright Data
… this feature gives the professional or advanced amateur a measure of peace of mind if their images are to be sent to other clients, or be made available on-line

A brand new feature in our two new EOS digital cameras that’s been heavily requested by our serious amateur and professional customers. The EOS 50D and 5D Mark II allow users to input both a copyright notice and an entry for the photographer’s name. These two items are added to the camera’s EXIF shooting data, and can be viewed using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software, as well as third-party browsing/image editing programs such as Photoshop. Please note — this info only appears in the accompanying EXIF shooting data, and is not in any way watermarked on the actual image itself.

To input this information, you have to connect the camera to your computer (Mac or Windows) via the included USB cable. Using the supplied EOS Utility software, you navigate to the Camera Settings section, type in the information you want to appear with each image, such as your name or company, and then upload this info into the camera.

Once installed, you can view this information on the EOS 5D Mark II, or 50D menu: Set-Up Menu 3 > CLEAR SETTINGS > Press INFO button. It’s not possible to set or change this information using the camera alone; however, it can be reset, and uploaded again using your USB cable and the EOS Utility software as explained above. You can delete the information completely, using the CLEAR SETTINGS menu option, this time selecting DELETE COPYRIGHT INFORMATION. One reason for deleting the info might be if another photographer was using your EOS 50D, for example.

While nothing short of actual payment and written registration of your images with your nation’s copyright office can legally insure copyright protection, this feature gives the professional or advanced amateur a measure of peace of mind if their images are to be sent to other clients, or be made available on-line.
