Free Firmware Announcement for Select Canon Cinema EOS, Professional Video and Multi-Purpose cameras: EOS C700, EOS C100 Mark II, EOS C100 DAF, EOS C100, XC10, XC15, ME20F-SH, and ME200S-SH
Originally announced along with the camera’s introduction, this firmware update for the EOS C700 adds selections in the camera’s menu for controlling and updating the optional Codex recorder, the CDX-36150. The immediate benefit is that it will unlock additional recording modes on the CDX-36150 with expanded frame rates, in both RAW and ProRes formats. Importantly, with this update 12-bit 4.5K RAW recording will be possible.

C100 Mark II
The C100 Mark II is being updated with functionality recently added to the C300 Mark II, a feature called Shutter Angle Priority. It’s a change in the way the shutter responds when “Angle Mode” is selected. This particular update comes in direct response to requests from many Cinema EOS shooters that asked for manual adjustment changes to the Shutter Angle when changing frame rates. With this firmware update, when the Shutter Angle is selected, it won’t change again until the operator changes it, even if the frame rate is changed. This only affects Shutter Angle and other shutter modes remain unchanged.
Peripheral illumination data is being added to support the recent introduction of the EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM.
EOS C100 DAF/EOS C100
The EOS C100 and the EOS C100 DAF (C100 with the Dual Pixel Autofocus upgrade) will be getting new firmware to support the following cinema lenses:
• Cine Servo CN7x17KAS S
• Compact-Servo CN-E18-80mm_T4.4_L_IS_KAS_S
• Cine Servo CN20x50 IAS
This update will provide camera support for these lenses, and will add enhanced in-camera functionality when one of these lenses is attached. For instance, a menu addition will enable control of the zoom from the joystick on the grip unit. And the zoom speed will be adjustable in 16 variations – from super slow to super quick.
Additionally, this firmware will add support for Push Auto Iris and Auto Iris for all three lenses, along with enabling support to adjust the iris from the Control Dial on the camera body. Also, the Start/Stop button on the lens will be able to start and stop camera recording, while also recording important lens metadata to the file – items like focal length and f/stop. Imaging corrections like Peripheral illumination Correction is supported for all three lenses, as well.
If you need a remote control solution when using any of these lenses mounted on the C100, items like focus, zoom and iris will be controllable when using them in conjunction with the Canon RC-V100.
Very significantly, if you’re using the C100 DAF with either the Cine Servo 17-120mm or the Compact-Servo 18-80mm, you’ll get responsive One-Shot AF, or continuous Dual Pixel Auto Focus tracking with both.
Additionally, this firmware adds Peripheral Illumination correction data to the C100/C100 DAF models for some new additions to the EF lens family:
• EF35mm f/1.4L II USM
• EF50mm f/1.8 STM
• EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
• EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM
Canon’s Multi-Purpose cameras are getting several updates to add functionality. First is the addition of three kinds of camera modes in addition to Auto/Manual. Designed to offer flexibility and options for semi-automatic operation, the three new modes are Tv, Av, and AGC:
• Tv: Shutter Speed is selectable. Iris and Gain are auto. ND is selectable as either Auto or Manual.
• Av: Iris is selectable. Sutter Speed and Gain are auto. ND is selectable as either Auto or Manual.
• AGC: Shutter Speed and Iris are selectable. Gain is auto. ND is selectable as either Auto or Manual.
Support for the Compact-Servo 18-80mm T4.4 EF is being included for the ME20F-SH (this support was already included for the ME200S-SH when it was released). The following points are available when the Compact-Servo 18-80mm T4.4 EF is attached:
• Acquirement of metadata
• Peripheral illumination correction is supported
• Aperture can be adjusted manually by using the joystick on the camera body
• Focus/Zoom/Iris can be operated by using RC-V100
• Support for One-shot AF
• Support for Push Auto Iris
• Start/Stop button on the lens can be worked with camera when the grip unit is attached
The following EF lenses are now verified to work with the camera system (Peripheral Illumination Correction is also supported):
• EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
• EF35mm f/1.4L II USM
• EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM
This update will also add menu settings for both cameras that offer Fine-Tuning adjustments when used in a chroma-key situation. Four kinds of parameters, Hue (Blue or Green), Chroma, Area and Y Level, have been added to the Custom Picture menu in order to extract the keyed object and synthesize the background for certain systems that use an “easy chroma-key system.” An “easy chroma-key system” refers to a chroma-key kit where blue or green light is added to a particular gray matte background.
ME20F-SH/ME200S-SH FIRMWARE UPDATE
Also, three new modes of white balance are being added for both cameras in addition to AWB (auto white balance). When the camera mode is set to Auto, it will now be possible to choose from the following four choices of white balance:
• AWB (Auto White Balance)
• White Balance Set（WB-A/WB-B）
• White Balance Preset（Daylight/Tungsten）
• Color Temperature (2000K〜15000K by 100K）
The Multi-Purpose camera packages do not include a viewfinder or LCD display, and instead require an external monitoring solution. So, in order to add additional compatibility for monitoring when the camera is set to 25.00P, 25PsF is being added as an output format. Prior to this update, only 50i could be selected on output when the recording frame rate was set to 25.00P. This signal was not compatible for viewing camera output with some monitors. Therefore, with this update, 25.00PsF can be selected as an output frame rate in the “Other Function” menu options, which can then be selected as a Mon. Out option. These are the same specs for monitoring as found in the C300 Mark II.
Additionally, to further enhance monitoring options, support for“59.94P/59.94i” and “50.00P/50.00i” settings is being updated. When the cameras’ set frame rate is 59.94P or 50.00P, “59.94P (50.00P)” and “59.94i (50.00i)” are available under the 3G/HD-SDI 1/MONITOR terminal setting in accordance with which frame rate was selected. So, if you select 50.00P, 50.00(i) will be available (along with 25.00PsF), or if you select 59.94P, 59.94(i) will be a monitoring option. These changes should add a great deal of flexibility when choosing a monitor for either camera.
Note, however, that the cameras’ set frame rate (for recording purposes) is output from the 3G/HD-SDI 2 terminal at all times, and will not be affected by these additional monitoring options.
This minor update adds support to the XC10 and XC15 cameras for VPG130 CFast cards, which meets the latest specification by the Compact Flash Association for a Video Performance Guarantee (VPG) Profile for Cfast cards, VPG Profile 3. The VPG Profile 3 specification enables guaranteed sustained capture of video streams at up to 130MB/s for professional video capture. This includes guaranteed video capture over multiple capture files and across file system updates without dropping frames, enabling high quality 4K capture.
