Canon EOS Immersion and Workshops... a deeper look

June 25, 2013

As I sit and think about the entire Canon Live Learning program, I can’t help but revert back to the original idea of assembling a group of people together in one place to learn about photography and HD video. An educational event can inspire, motivate, rejuvenate and generate new ideas, thus opening the door for taking your imaging experience to the next level and in a fun way.

I took the opportunity to “observe” the June Live Learning weekend in New York City to reignite my passion for photo education. I used the word “observe” because I thought I might do just that. Turns out, I didn’t do that at all. I had to jump in and get involved with the Speedlite and HD Storytelling Workshop on Sunday because they’re just plain fun! Our instructors, Jeff Greene and Sharon Levy Freed, are top-notch professionals and the information they shared was invaluable.

Whether you attend Saturday’s Immersion class covering a wide range of topics or Sunday’s intensive Workshop on Speedlite’s or HD Storytelling, our instructors will take you along a journey and expose you (no pun intended) to some very important aspects of digital photography and HD video with your Canon DSLR.

At the beginning of the day, most attendees weren’t quite sure how to take control over their Speedlite or create a story with video. By the end of the day, I’ve witnessed those very same people create stunning images and footage. It’s amazing to watch it happen over the course of just eight hours!

You’ll get the opportunity to shoot in either a workshop setting or with professional models and actors so you can concentrate on learning, not directing. We’ll show you how to use the gear and stand side-by-side with you as you’re shooting so you feel comfortable with the concepts you’ve learned.

I’m a firm believer in learning by doing and the entire Canon Live Learning program is centered around that concept. I’ll borrow a quote from the great Benjamin Franklin: “Tell me and I forget, teach me and may remember, involve me and I learn.” I know that implementing what you learn here immediately in your photography and video projects WILL make you a better image-maker. I still learn something new every time I attend one.

At the end of the day, your head may hurt from all the new information you’ve learned but we’re confident it will be worth it. Who knows . . . you might even leave with some new friendships!

We’re rolling out the fall schedule shortly, so stay tuned for more info.
