You might ask yourself, “What’s the benefit of attending a tradeshow when I can see everything online?” The short answer is: you don’t experience it. You don’t walk through the back lots of the Paramount Studio, read the plaques on the stages with what films were shot and you don’t meet the people that are making the tools for the industry. If you’re in the cinema industry, you need to experience Cine Gear Expo.

I was able to shake hands and meet with Jim from Filmtools, say hello to Brian at Redrock Micro and meet, for the first time, Chris at G-Technology. We spend so many hours in front of our screens working and “living” a connected online life, so I enjoy the opportunity to actually see the amazing products in my hands and meet the people involved in our exciting profession.

To experience some of Canon’s products and as a complimentary program to Cine Gear Expo, Canon Live Learning held a seminar at the Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center. Our Technical Advisor Brent Ramsey produced an engaging seminar on the latest update to Cinema EOS – Dual Pixel Auto Focus (AF) for the EOS C300 camera. Brent set up demonstrations utilizing jib arms and dolly movements that showcased “real world” examples on how cinematographers can utilize Dual Pixel AF for a myriad of shooting conditions. I’ve seen the examples online and I have read all the specs sheets, but nothing compares to seeing this new technology in person. It’s amazing to see at f/1.2, being able to hold focus on a face as the camera moves in to a tight frame. If you’re a fan of shallow depth of field and beautiful bokeh, you’ll want to see the creative controls with the Dual Pixel AF.

Coming this fall, Canon Live Learning will be hosting programs and workshops revolving around our Cinema EOS line of product at our Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center. To receive notifications via email, sign up for our EOS Newsletter. We hope to see you at our next event!
