Nick Vedros built his super studio in the heart of America, in Kansas City where he was born, yet east-coast and west-coast art directors beat a path to his door. Vedros is a generalist and his color photography also drew national attention. A firm believer in mastering photographic theory, he added to his early reputation by taking on difficult assignments and creating a production company to help handle the details. He quickly became known as a problem solver and as a master of lighting.
"The secret to solving a photographic problem," says Vedros, "or to making a photograph that duplicates the image in your head or in the Art Director's head, is the mastery of photographic principles. Without that mastery, you are not in control; you're leaning on your luck."

Vedros began study of photographic principles at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He received his degree in 1976 and in 1977 opened his studio in downtown Kansas City. He made the rounds of Art Directors in Kansas City, portfolio in hand and before long was getting assignments. Some of the local advertising agencies had national clients, so Vedros got national exposure and in time the out-of-town agencies began calling.
He firmly believes that one should use the latest model of equipment and stay firmly in touch with all the new developments. He has never made any equipment for his studio, but believes that buying the best available is good business. Why throw away valuable time that is better spent behind the camera?

Vedros continues to travel world wide to complete his projects. Whether it is a job in London or home in Kansas City he projects a combination of unshakable confidence and desire to face challenges that ultimately bring him his wide range of assignments - from portraits, to situations, to products. He holds fast to the belief that every task deserves his full attention.
